You did not plan on getting pregnant, it just happened. You may not know what to do. In fact, abortion may seem like the easy way out because then nobody will know that you were pregnant. Young Christian’s having sex outside of marriage are not applying their faith to important decisions, including sexuality and pregnancy choices. Abstinence is not often considered a viable option in today’s youth culture. Classroom education and prevention should be a mandatory curriculum on sexual integrity.
Some statistics: In the United States an estimated 1.2 million abortions are performed each year. 51% of all pregnancies are unplanned or 3.4 million per year. 1 in 4 women will have an abortion by the age of 30, many remain wounded by the choice. 73% of women who have an abortion report a Christian affiliation. Abortion is the most common surgical procedure performed in the U.S. each year.
However, you do have options—parenting and adoption. God says all children are special, even if you did not plan them. So choose to give your child life. Seek counsel at a local church or pro life center.
Scripture of encouragement: Genesis 9, You are made in the image of God; Jeremiah 1-5, Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. Before you were born I sanctified you; Psalms 139, God’s perfect plan and knowledge of human life.
My prayer for all of God’s people is to rise up and be the hands and feet of Jesus for women and men experiencing an unexpected pregnancy.
